The Mayor

Vilified by the press in the 70s when he was leader of the Greater London Council, labelled 'Ren Ken' for his socialist politics and sympathies with the Soviet Union, and made the subject of a personal vendetta by Margaret Thatcher, who was prepared to dissolve an entire layer of democracy to remove one man, Ken Livingstone made a triumphant return to prominence in London when he defeated the 'official' Labour Party candidate for the post of Mayor. Once again, his radical policies have helped greatly to improve life in the city and to prove that there are still politicians of principle to be found. He pledged in his speech to ensure that there will be a Russian Winter Festival every year of his term and demonstrated his lifelong friendship and respect for the people of Russia.
