Baba Yaga

The records are a mixture of original rock music with English lyrics and Russian folk songs interwoven into the music. It sounds odd and may not be to all tastes, but it works really well with the melodies counterpointing each other beautifully. The band is fronted by Irish musician Jamie Winchester and includes Tibor Bornai and the Russian folk singers Karagod, who also sound to be the same as those on 'Russian Memories' by Ermitage. I recommend this band highly. The band will be playing at Sziget Festival in Budapest in August 2007. There are two albums I know of, 'Secret Combination' and 'Where Will You Go'. NEW: Go here for two of the Russian folk songs used by the group (in cyrillic).

Jamie-Robi: This is the official site of Jamie Winchester and Hrutka Robert and may well have a lot of interesting information on these artists. Unfortunately there appears to be no English pages and I don't speak Hungarian. They have, however, included the video I upload to youtube on the main page (see below also).
Zvuki.ru: There is a short piece on the group here, plus a few MP3s from 'Secret Combination'.
CD Roots: An extensive a article about the band.

Karagod The folk musicians on the records, who played at the Russian Winter Festival in London, January 2005.

This is the only video of the band that we have found. This is 'Secret Combination'. There are a fair number of videos featuring Jamie Winchester on youtube. Just do a search for his name.
