I spent some time in Kazan and I love the city. Here are some pictures - apart from the first one they are taken by Victor Komarov. There are many more here. Click on the small picture to see a larger version. The Kazan section of this site is expanding, but will take some time to complete. The work in progress is here: New Kazan pages

Begamot Bulak   Baumana1   Baumana2

The first picture is the Begamot museum, with Pauli and friend outside. The second shows a snowy scene near the Bulak canal, and then two shots of the main shopping street in Kazan, Ulitsa Baumana. When I was first in the city, parts of this were used by traffic, but it has since been paved over and made into a pedestrian zone.

Koltso1   Koltso2   Koltso3   Koltso4
Four shots taken around the hub of Kazan, known localy as the 'Koltso'. The middle two show entrances to the perehod, where you can buy tapes, trinkets and lots of flowers. What looks like a church tower in the third picture is, in fact, the spectacle repair shop. The shot on the right shows the chess school, on the extreme left, where I studied Russian. I met a lot of people in Kazan and made a few friends - I can't name check them all, but I'll say hi to anyone who remembers me and if you want to write to me use my e-mail address or post in the forum.
Unah   Lyonya   This book contains many photographs and information on Kazan. It is published by Flint River Press, London, But I don't know if it is still in print. However, a lot of its content is used on this Kazan website. I have seen the book in English, Russian and Tatar. The official Kazan website is here (thanks Nadir). Flint River Press
