Burned by the Sun (1994)

Nikita Mikhailkovhas appeared as an actor in many Russian films over the years and has also directed many. This is one of his films most easily available outside of Russia and has had television screenings in Britain. It tells of one case of injustice during the Stalin purges, and how this tears apart a family. The performances are superb and the little girl, played by Mikhailkov's real daughter, gives a simply enchanting performance.
